A group of 200 environmental activists in Israel have publicly criticized renowned climate activist Greta Thunberg for her recent social media posts expressing solidarity with Palestine and Gaza.

The Israeli “Women in the Environment” Forum, led by Rony Bruell, has responded to Thunberg’s tweet with an open letter. The letter urges Thunberg to educate herself further about the conflict in the region and to acknowledge the horrific events that took place on Saturday, October 7, in Israel, including murders, rape, and kidnappings.

The activists expressed their concerns through an open letter, accusing Thunberg’s stance as “appallingly one-sided, ill-informed, and superficial.”

The open letter has garnered significant support, with over 200 individuals, both women and men, signing it. The list of signatories continues to grow.

The letter emphasizes that the current situation in Israel and Gaza bears no relation to human rights and freedom. It urges Thunberg to consider the story of Dr. Shoshan Haran, who was kidnapped along with seven family members. Dr. Haran’s values and activities align closely with those that Thunberg advocates for.

The signatories of the letter argue that Thunberg’s posts contrast sharply with her usual approach to environmental issues, which they describe as characterized by a deep dive into details and a thorough understanding of complex issues. They expressed disappointment in what they perceive as a lack of depth and nuance in her understanding of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The letter further challenges Thunberg’s apparent endorsement of Hamas, the governing authority of the Gaza Strip. “Do you think Hamas represents human rights and freedom? Think again!” the letter reads. This statement reflects the signatories’ belief that Hamas’s governance does not align with the principles of human rights and freedom.

The open letter has sparked a heated debate on social media, with users divided over Thunberg’s stance on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. While some applaud her for using her platform to highlight the plight of Palestinians, others echo the sentiments expressed in the open letter, arguing that her posts oversimplify a complex geopolitical issue.

Greta Thunberg, the Swedish climate activist, has recently expressed solidarity with Palestine and Gaza in her social media posts. She called for an immediate ceasefire, justice, and freedom for Palestinians and all civilians affected. Thunberg’s posts came in the wake of a conflict in which Hamas led a deadly attack on Israel.

She shared a picture of herself and three friends, all holding “Stand with Gaza” signs, along with a message. Among the signs, one boldly stated, “This Jewish person supports Palestine.”

Alongside the picture, she provided helpful links for donating and showing support to Gaza. Furthermore, she expressed her strong stance against antisemitism in a thoughtful statement.

However, the specific reasons behind Thunberg’s decision to express solidarity with Palestine and Gaza are not explicitly stated in her posts. As an activist, Thunberg often uses her platform to draw attention to various global issues. In this case, she appears to be advocating for peace and justice in the region.

As of now, Greta Thunberg has not responded to the open letter. The global community awaits her response as this unexpected criticism from fellow environmental activists continues to make headlines.
