According to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, the body that was found in the mouth of a 13-foot alligator in Largo, Florida, has been identified as a 41-year-old woman.

The victim has been identified as Sabrina Peckham, who was reported missing by her family on Wednesday. The cause and manner of her death are still pending, according to the medical examiner’s office.

According to the Sheriff’s office, at approximately 1:50 p.m., the Sheriff’s office received a report of a body spotted in the waterway near 134th Avenue North and 121st Street North. Deputies promptly arrived at the scene and sought the assistance of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC). Together, they successfully euthanized and removed a 13-foot, 8.5-inch male alligator from the waterway, as it was believed to be connected to the incident.

Deputies assigned to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team also recovered the remains of Peckham from the waterway.

The sheriff’s office said that anyone who has a concern regarding an alligator should call FWC’s toll-free Nuisance Alligator Hotline at 866-392-4286.

The investigation is ongoing and any further updates will be provided by the sheriff’s office.

The alligator was killed by the authorities and the woman’s remains were recovered by a dive team.

This is not the first time that a body was found in the mouth of an alligator in Florida. In March, a two-year-old boy was also found dead in a lake after his father allegedly killed his mother and put him there.

Fatal alligator attacks are very rare, but Florida has a large population of about 1.3 million alligators.
