Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to share the grim news and provide updates on the ongoing rescue operations.

The chief minister expressed his gratitude to the numerous individuals who have stepped up to assist with the rescue efforts in the wake of the tragedy, highlighting the community’s resilience and unity during such challenging times.

The disaster resonated beyond Mizoram’s borders, capturing the attention of national leaders. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee both conveyed their heartfelt condolences and grief over the loss of lives due to the bridge mishap.

Prime Minister Modi announced immediate support in the form of an ex-gratia payment of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) to the next of kin of each deceased, along with Rs 50,000 for those injured. He took to social media to express his sympathy and share his commitment to providing all necessary assistance to the affected individuals.

“Pained by the bridge mishap in Mizoram. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon. Rescue operations are underway, and all possible assistance is being given to those affected,” the Prime Minister’s tweet read.

Chief Minister Banerjee, who shared a close connection to the incident as some of the deceased were from her state’s Malda district, swiftly took action. She instructed her chief secretary to collaborate with the Mizoram administration for rescue and assistance operations. The West Bengal administration reached out to the bereaved families, offering support during this trying time.

“I have instructed my chief secretary to coordinate with the Mizoram administration at once for rescue and assistance operations. The Malda district administration has been asked to reach out to the bereaved families to extend all possible help,” Banerjee stated, underlining her commitment to standing by those affected.

The West Bengal Chief Minister further assured due compensation to the next of kin of the affected families, emphasizing solidarity with the distressed and extending her condolences.
