In a thrilling match that kept fans on the edge of their seats, Spain emerged victorious with a 2-1 win over Sweden in the Women’s World Cup semifinal. The game, held in Auckland on Tuesday, witnessed an electrifying finish with all three goals scored in the final 10 minutes.

The first half of the match unfolded cautiously, with both teams struggling to break the deadlock. Sweden’s high defensive line posed a challenge for Spain, who managed to maintain possession but struggled to create significant goal-scoring opportunities. Olga Carmona’s long-range attempt in the 12th minute narrowly missed the mark, and Sweden’s first shot came from Fridolina Rolfo in the 42nd minute.

The second half saw an increase in intensity as both teams ramped up their efforts to find the back of the net. Spain’s persistence paid off in the 81st minute when substitute Salma Paralluelo capitalized on a well-timed run, scoring her second goal in consecutive games.

However, Sweden fought back fiercely to keep their World Cup dreams alive. Substitute Rebecka Blomqvist found the equalizer just seven minutes later, sending the game into a nail-biting climax. The momentum swung back in Spain’s favor when Teresa Abelleira’s short corner found Olga Carmona, who delivered a powerful shot from the edge of the penalty area to secure Spain’s lead in the 89th minute.

With this historic victory, Spain advances to their first-ever Women’s World Cup final. They await the outcome of the England-Australia match to determine their opponent for the final showdown in Sydney on Sunday. Meanwhile, Sweden’s valiant effort sets them on a collision course with the loser of the second semifinal, as they prepare to battle for third place in Brisbane.
