In a concerning development, a fire broke out in a Russian military compound located in eastern Crimea, a region that was illegally annexed by Russia in 2014. According to regional authorities, the incident resulted in the evacuation of more than 2,000 residents from four nearby villages. The head of the administration in Crimea, Sergei Aksyonov, announced the evacuation via the messaging platform Telegram.

As a precautionary measure, part of the main road connecting Simferopol to Kerch in eastern Crimea was temporarily closed, and traffic was diverted to ensure the safety of motorists and pedestrians.

The fire predominantly impacted the vicinity of the town of Stary Krym in eastern Crimea. However, no official statements have been released regarding the cause of the fire.

Disturbing videos surfaced on social media, showing the extent of the blaze, with the sound of ammunition exploding in the background.

The situation adds to the heightened tensions in the region, as Russia uses Crimea as a staging area for potential attacks on Ukraine. In response, Kiev’s forces continue their efforts to regain control of the Black Sea peninsula.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, and further updates on the fire’s containment and impact on the surrounding communities are eagerly awaited.
