Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has secured the services of France defender Lucas Hernandez, as confirmed by Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich on Sunday. The high-profile transfer marks Hernandez’s departure from Bayern, with whom he spent four successful years.
Jan-Christian Dreesen, CEO of Bayern Munich, expressed gratitude to Hernandez, acknowledging his unwavering dedication and indomitable spirit.
The transfer fee has not been disclosed but French media reported that PSG had paid Bayern a fee of €40 million ($43.87m) plus add-ons for the 27-year-old.
Hernandez initially joined Bayern in 2019 from Atletico Madrid for a staggering fee of €80 million, becoming the German record champions’ costliest player. However, his tenure at the club was plagued by a series of long-term injuries, which prevented him from establishing a consistent presence in the team. His most recent setback was a season-ending cruciate ligament rupture sustained during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
In response to Hernandez’s departure, Bayern Munich is said to have secured the services of Napoli defender Kim Min Jae as a suitable replacement. Although an official announcement is pending, sources indicate that the transfer has been finalized. Kim, who played a pivotal role in Napoli’s recent Serie A triumph, is currently contracted to the Italian club until June 2025.
