Ukrainian air defenses intercepted all 15 cruise missiles and 18 drones fired by Russian forces in Kyiv in the early hours of Friday, Ukrainian military authorities said.
“The forces and means of air defense of the Air Forces, in cooperation with the air defense of the constituent Defense Forces of Ukraine, all 15 cruise missiles and 21 attack drones have been destroyed,” the Air Force said on the Telegram channel on Friday.
There were no immediate reports of casualties from falling debris.
General Serbia Pop, head of the military administration in Kyiv, said separately that about 30 enemy facilities were destroyed.
In May, Russia fired more missiles and drones at Kyiv than in any comparable period since the full-scale invasion began last February. People were killed in Thursday’s attack, including a child.
In London, the British Ministry of Defense (Mod) said in Daily War Updates that pro-Ukrainian guerrilla attacks on Russian territory were a problem for the Russian military.
“Russian commanders now face a serious dilemma: should they reinforce defenses in Russia’s border regions or their lines in occupied Ukraine,” he said after a drone strike on Belgorod, some 35 kilometers from the border with Ukrainian.
While the Russian forces had shown quicker success in containing this raid than the previous one, according to the Russian Defence Ministry, they had “resorted to deploying the full range of military firepower on its own territory, including attack helicopters, and the TOS-1A heavy thermobaric rocket launcher,” the British Defence Ministry said.
Moscow dismisses the daily reports from London as disinformation.
