U.S. President Joe Biden had a small skin lesion removed from his chest, which a biopsy confirmed to be cancerous. The tissue was discovered during a routine physical examination

White House physician, Kevin C. O’Connor, said in a statement that all of the cancerous tissue was successfully removed. The procedure took place on February 16 while Biden was being evaluated at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

The doctor added that basal cell carcinoma lesions do not tend to spread or metastasize like some other types of skin cancer do. But they can grow larger, making removal more difficult during surgery.

“The area around the biopsy site was treated presumptively with electrodesiccation and curettage at the time of biopsy. No further treatment is required,” physician, Kevin C. O’Connor said. The procedure took place on Feb. 16 when Biden had his physical at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
