A US nuclear submarine has arrived in South Korea as part of a planned visit, the US Pacific Fleet said on Saturday in an apparent show of force and a warning to North Korea against provocations.

The 6,000-ton Los Angeles-class fast attack submarine USS Springfield docked at the naval base in the southern port city of Busan for a “scheduled post visit.” he said in a social media post, without disclosing his arrival time.

“USS Springfield is one of five Los Angeles-class fast-attack submarines forward-deployed to Guam and routinely operates in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations, conducting maritime security operations and supporting national security interests”;” read the message.

The South Pacific Fleet has released photos of a naval ship hanging Allied national flags on the wall of its kiosk and South Korean naval crew members welcoming the newcomer.

A rare revelation of a submarine operation in the South appears set to send North Korea a stern warning after repeated missile provocations. North Korea protested violently against the US deployment of its strategic assets on the Korean Peninsula and its allies’ combined exercises.
