Finland’s Prime Minister Sanna Marin has said that she underwent a drug test after a video of her dancing with her friends at a party was released on Friday.
Marin told a press conference that she had taken a drug test, the results of which will be available next week.
Marin said that she did not use any kind of drugs even in her teenage years.
Prime Minister Marin took the drug test after opposition Party leader Riikka Purra called on her to voluntarily take a drug test during an interview with Helsingin Sanomat newspaper.
Earlier this week, videos of Prime Minister Marin partying with various Finnish celebrities and public figures went viral on social media. Marin and other partygoers can be seen dancing and singing together in the video, which is made up of several clips.
Marin, 36, has faced increasing criticism after a video surfaced showing her dancing with some celebrity friends at a private residence.
Marin said the videos were private and were filmed a few weeks ago at a private residence. “These videos are private and filmed in a private space,” Marin told reporters. She said she did not know who leaked it. She told the media on Friday that she knew she was being filmed, but never thought the videos would become publicly available.
“I am saddened that these videos have become public. It was about a night out with my friends,” she said. She said that she had consumed mild alcoholic beverages, but no drugs in them.
“I want to show that there are ordinary people with ordinary lives in these jobs. I have a family life, I have a work life and I have free time to spend with my friends. Pretty much the same as many people my age,” she stressed.
Marin became the Prime Minister in 2019 and became the youngest head of government in the world. He was only 33 years old when he became the Prime Minister in 2019.
