India’s  Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday arrested fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim’s brother Iqbal Ibrahim Kaskar, who is lodged in Thane jail, in connection with an alleged money laundering case, reports Indian media outlets.

A special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court later in the day sent Kaskar to ED custody for 7 days, according to ANI.

The probe agency had recently registered a money laundering case against Dawood Ibrahim, the 1993 Mumbai blasts mastermind, and his aides for their involvement in financing terror activities and disrupting the law and order situation across the country.

The probe agency had recently registered a money laundering case against Dawood Ibrahim, the 1993 Mumbai blasts mastermind, and his aides for their involvement in financing terror activities and disrupting the law and order situation across the country.

“Enforcement Directorate (ED) is carrying out searches at several places linked to the people associated with the underworld, in Mumbai in a money laundering case. Some underworld fugitives and politicians are also under investigation,” ANI had quoted the sources as saying.

Following the raids, the central probe agency has reportedly recovered documents related to illegal property deals with links to Indian businessmen operating in Mumbai and in Dubai during the course of the investigation and also after the raids, according to the reports.

According to the IANS media agency, the development came after a Mumbai Court granted permission to the ED to interrogate Iqbal Kaskar, who was arrested by Thane Police’s Anti-Extortion Cell in 2017 and remains in custody since then.
