The Blacksburg Police Department has released a statement that One person died and four are in hospitals after a shooting late Friday at a bar near Virginia Tech in downtown Blacksburg.
“This incident continues to be a complex, ongoing case that has shifted to a homicide investigation. There were five individuals that were injured in the shooting, four were transported to local hospitals and one is deceased. The severity of the injuries of those who were transported is unknown at this time,” Blacksburg Police said in a statement.
One of whom was a Virginia Tech student, according to Virginia Tech University.
“On Friday, February 04, 2022, at 11:53 pm, the Blacksburg Police responded to the report of shots fired at the Melody Hookah Lounge located at 109 N Main St in downtown Blacksburg,” police said.
Blacksburg Police are calling this a homicide investigation. Multiple law enforcement agencies are assisting in the area and following up on leads.
This is an ongoing investigation, Blacksburg police said.
