    U.S. journalist Danny Fenster out from prison in Myanmar

    Danny Fenster, an American journalist who was sentenced to 11 years in prison is now out from jail.

    US journalist Danny Fenster detained by Myanmar military junta is out of prison, said his employer on Monday. If confirmed by the authorities, Fenster’s release would come just three days after he was sentenced to 11 years in jail. He faced charges for incitement and breaches of immigration and terrorism laws.

    “Great news. I heard @DannyFenster is out,” Sonny Swe, the publisher of Frontier Myanmar, Fenster’s employer, said on Twitter. He did not provide details.

    Fenster’s family released a statement and said that they were ‘overjoyed’. There was no immediate reaction from Myanmar’s ruling military council.

    Fenster, 37-year-Old was detained at Yangon International Airport on May 24 as he was about to board a flight to go to the Detroit area in the United States to see his family.

    He is the only foreign journalist to be convicted of a serious crime since the army seized power in February, ousting the elected government of Aung San Suu Kyi.
