Brazil’s Health Minister Marcelo Queiroga has tested positive for COVID-19 Tuesday after attending the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

The health minister Marcelo Queiroga is a team member of the Brazilian delegation accompanying President Jair Bolsonaro, who opened up the General Assembly with a speech on Tuesday.

The minister will remain in New York in quarantine, the Brazilian government’s communication office told reporters.

Queiroga also confirmed that he tested positive for COVID-19 and will be on quarantine in New York.

The Brazilian government said on Tuesday that Queiroga, who had received a COVID-19 vaccine, was the second member of Bolsonaro’s entourage to test positive for the virus since arriving in New York for the 76th session of the annual UN General Assembly.

“The other members of the delegation have been tested and are negative,” said the official Brazilian government press release.

Bolsonaro has faced criticism for being the sole unvaccinated G20 leader.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio on Monday criticized Bolsonaro for attending the General Assembly despite not receiving the vaccine for COVID-19.

“We need to send a message to all the world leaders, including most notably Bolsonaro from Brazil, that if you intend to come here, you need to be vaccinated,” de Blasio said while holding his daily briefing.
