    Fifth Test between England vs India canceled after team members test COVID-19 positive

    The fifth and the final Test cricket match between England and India at Emirates Old Trafford has been cancelled after a number of India’s team members test positive for the COVID-19.

    “Due to fears of a further increase in the number of COVID cases inside the camp, India are regrettably unable to field a team,” the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said:

    The ECB said further information will be shared in due course.

    India’s cricket board has also issued a statement after ECB’s announcement saying “The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) along with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have jointly decided to call off the 5th Test Match scheduled at Manchester in ongoing India’s tour of England 2021.”

     

    Head coach Ravi Shastri tested positive during India’s fourth Test win, forcing bowling coach Bharat Arun, fielding coach Ramakrishnan Sridhar and physiotherapist Nitin Pate to isolate.

    The announcement to cancel the match came from ECB just over two hours before it was due to begin in Manchester.
