Half of the U.S. population, including more than 61% of adults, is now fully vaccinated against the coronavirus while COVID-19 cases rise rapidly in Florida and Texas, according to data released Saturday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
According to the CDC data, 166.20 million U.S. residents have received two shots while 194.34 million, or 58.5% have received at least one shot. For adults, those 18 and over, 194.21 million, or 68.9% are now vaccinated and 182.84 million, or 70.8% have received at least one dose.
Similarly, 65 years of age received 43.96 million, or 80.4% are now fully vaccinated and 49.43 million or 90.4% have received a single dose.
Vaccination rates are still low in Mississippi, Arkansas, and Louisiana, where less than 40 percent of the population is fully vaccinated. So far, northeastern states such as Vermont, Massachusetts, and Maine are leading the country, with more than 60 percent of their populations fully vaccinated.
