A suicide attack in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province killed nine soldiers and injured five others on Thursday night, the army said.

The attack took place in the Jani Khel area of Bannu district, when a motorcycle-borne suicide bomber rammed his vehicle into a military convoy.

The area has been cordoned off by security forces and an operation is being carried out to eliminate any terrorists found in the area.

The Pakistani army said that the security forces are determined to eliminate the menace of terrorism and such sacrifices of soldiers would further strengthen the resolve.

The attack comes just days after six soldiers and four terrorists were killed in a clash in South Waziristan district of KP province.

Pakistani caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar has condemned the terrorist attack in Bannu Division, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province, which killed nine soldiers and injured five others.

In a tweet, Kakar said he was “heartbroken” by the loss of the soldiers, who he called “valiant”. He said the attack was a “cowardly terrorist act” and that his thoughts were with the families of the victims.

Kakar also said that Pakistan “stands resolute against such terror” and that the security forces would not be cowed by such attacks.

The Pakistani Taliban, a banned terrorist group, has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The group has been active in the region for years and has carried out numerous attacks against security forces and civilians.

The attack is a reminder of the ongoing threat of terrorism in Pakistan. The government has vowed to take tough measures to counter terrorism, but the task is daunting.
