A fossilized skeleton of a dinosaur that lived 76 million years ago will be auctioned in New York this month, Sotheby’s auction house announced.
Discovered in 2018 near Havre, Montana, the Gorgosaurus lived in the western parts of the United States and Canada during the late Cretaceous Period, per NPR.
The Gorgosaurus is a fine example of one of the large, late Campanian Theropods endemic to North America, per Sotheby’s .
The Gorgosaurus is a relative of the deadly T-Rex, yet faster and with a stronger bite force. The specimen is nearly 10 feet tall and 22 feet long, according to Sotheby’s.
It will be offered as a highlight in the Natural History auction on 28 July 2022.
The auction house’s presale estimate for the fossil is between $5 million and $8 million, according to Barrons.
