At least 14 people died in a fire at a nightclub in Chonburi Province, Thailand. Officials informed that the incident took place at 1 pm local time on Friday.
The blaze erupted at the Mountain B nightspot in Sattahip district, about 100 miles south of Bangkok, around 1 am Friday during a live music performance, per the BBC.
More than 40 others were injured, including 14 seriously, per AFP. They have been admitted to a local hospital for treatment. It is said that they are all citizens of Thailand. Footage showed people screaming as they fled the one-story building, “some with clothes on fire,” the BBC reports.
Locals, police and other rescuers reached the spot and carried out rescue operations as soon as they came to know about the incident. Rescuers rescued 18 people from the scene. The condition of three of the injured is said to be serious.
Police officials said that further investigation has been started and the culprits will be prosecuted.
